The Living Wage in the Home Care Sector

The Department of Health in the UK has said that it could make more funds available to the Home care sector in light of the pending increase in the national minimum wage. This increase could have a substantial impact on the sector, where many employees only earn the minimum wage.

As of April 2016 the minimum wage for over 25’s will rise from £6.70 and hour to £7.20
A report by the Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland (COPNI) found the average hourly tariff paid for home care in Northern Ireland is £11.35.

That tariff, which must cover workers wages and all other costs, is the lowest of any part of the UK.

We find it amazing that in this day and age that many Home Care workers are still only earning minimum wage when the job they do contributes so much to society as a whole. These people deserve more.
